URL encoder and decoder

Encode text for a URL parameter or decode percent-encoded text. Your input stays in this browser.

Runs in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.

How to use it

  1. Paste text or a URL parameter into the input box.
  2. Choose Encode to make it safe for a URL component, or Decode to read encoded text.
  3. Copy the result.

About this tool

URL encoding replaces characters that have a special meaning in URLs with percent-encoded bytes. For example, a space becomes %20. Use this when adding a value to a query parameter or path segment.

This tool encodes a URL component, not an entire URL. Keep URL separators such as ?, &, and = outside the text you encode. Encoding is not encryption, so do not use it to hide sensitive information.

Encoding and decoding happen in your browser. Your text is not uploaded or stored.

Questions

Should I encode a whole URL?

Usually, no. Encode individual parameter values, not the complete URL, so separators such as ?, &, and = keep working.

Is URL encoding secure?

No. It only changes how characters are represented. It does not encrypt or protect the text.
