About this tool
Many online application forms, exam portals and government websites only accept photos and signatures under 500KB. A photo straight from a phone is often 2 to 5MB, which is far too large. This tool finds the highest quality setting that still fits under 500KB, so you get the clearest picture the limit allows.
It works by trying different JPG quality levels and keeping the best one that fits. If even the lowest quality is still too large, it gently reduces the image dimensions until the file fits. Very small limits work best with simple images such as passport photos or signatures.
Everything happens in your browser. Your photo is not uploaded anywhere, which makes this safe for ID photos and personal documents.
Questions
Will my image be exactly 500KB?
It will be 500KB or slightly less. Hitting the exact byte count is not possible with JPG compression, but the result always stays under your limit when the image can be reduced that far.
Will the photo look blurry?
The tool keeps the highest quality that fits the limit. Large, detailed photos may lose some fine detail at small sizes, but faces and text usually stay clear.
Can I compress a PNG to this size?
Yes. PNG and WebP images are converted to JPG, which is the format most forms expect and the one that compresses best for photos.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. The tool runs entirely in your web browser using JavaScript. Your files are read and processed on your own device and are never sent to us or anyone else. You can even disconnect from the internet after the page loads and it will still work.
