How to Merge and Split PDF Files

PDFs are convenient for sharing documents, but sometimes several files need to become one, or a large document needs to be divided into smaller parts. Merging combines documents in a chosen order. Splitting extracts selected pages or saves pages as separate files.

Use the PDF merger to combine documents, or the PDF splitter to select pages. To turn pictures or scans into a document first, use images to PDF.

Merge PDFs in the right order

  1. Choose the PDF files you want to combine.
  2. Arrange them in the order they should appear in the finished document.
  3. Merge and download the resulting PDF.
  4. Open it and check the page order, page count and legibility.

Before merging, remove documents or pages that should not be shared. Page order matters for applications and records, so review the final file rather than assuming the original selection order is correct.

Extract or split selected pages

In the splitter, enter the page numbers you want to keep. A range such as 2-5 selects a continuous group, while a list such as 1, 4, 7 selects individual pages. Check the displayed page count and the final output. If the tool offers separate files, that can be useful when each page needs to be shared on its own.

Check the finished document

Open the output in a PDF reader and verify that the right pages are included, the page order is correct, and any important text or signatures remain readable. Keep the original PDFs until you know the new file is complete. Some PDFs have password protection or unusual features that browser-based tools may not be able to process.

Keep private files private

Bank statements, contracts and identity documents may contain sensitive information. MultiToolCloud's PDF tools run in your browser and process selected files on your device. The files are not uploaded to our servers. Still, only share the finished document with people or services you trust.

Choose a tool: merge PDF files or split a PDF.
